Jesus came to bring peace- but not as everyone thinks. He restores peace between God and man. And He gives His peace to His children so that they experience a peace not as the world gives and a peace that passes understanding. (Luke 2:14, Jn. 14:27, Phil. 4:7)
But He does not and will not bring peace between men. In fact, it is the opposite. Luke 12:51-53 says, “(51) do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division.(52) For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. (53) father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother in law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
MT. 10:34 puts it this way...”Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.” The word of God is known as a double-edged sword. (Eph. 6:17, Rev.1:16)
Jesus will cut a hard line in the sand as family and friends determine on which side of the line they will stand.
