Your decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior is not about religion. It is about relationship. God always intended for mankind to be in relationship with Him. Ultimately He wants to be in relationship with us forever in heaven with Him.
When Adam and Eve fell because of sin, it caused a gap/space/separation between God and man. Jesus’ finished work on the cross restored/repaired/redeemed that broken relationship.
So pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit. Speak to them as one. Speak to them from the heart… honestly, frankly, and directly.
Share with God your dreams and desires, your fears and failures, your plans and passions, your cares and concerns, your joys and jealousy’s. Whatever is on your mind and heart, God already knows of it and is waiting for you to come to Him with it.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (Ja. 4:8)
You can pray silently.
You can pray audibly.
You can pray privately.
You can pray corporately.
Prayer is like a tea time with God. The maker of all the universe shows up and meets you on your terms. You have His undivided attention. He loves you and wants time with you. He will always listen. Do not hesitate to approach God in prayer.
When Jesus Himself was asked by His disciples how do we pray, this is what He had to say.
(Mt. 6:5-15) “(5) And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their award. (6) But you, when you pray, goin to your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; And your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.(7) And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. (8) Therefore do not belike them. For your Father knows the things you have need for before you ask Him. (9) In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed (holy) be Your name. (10) Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (11) give us this day our daily bread. (12) and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. (13) And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
(14) For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (15) But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your heavenly Father forgive your trespasses.”
Remember that thanks to the blood and the work of Jesus, that God the Father is approachable in prayer.
He loves you and greatly desires a relationship with you. And like any good relationship, remember to not always just talk, but to take plenty of time to listen as well.
