These are the overriding, game changing goals of our church.
This question is a good question however it makes a couple of assumptions that should not be made.
One, it assumes that God is sending us to hell. And two, it assumes that people are good.
People are born with Original Sin in us from Adam and Eve. It is in our DNA. Left to our own devices, we will always fail. Ultimately we will always steal, lie, be selfish, etc. Even the best behaved of us are not holy in and of ourselves. Mankind on its own will never be good enough to stand before a holy and spotless God.
We are broken and we are desperate and we are lost. We need to be saved. That is why God chose to personally and physically and literally, as well as figuratively, come to earth to save us.Jesus left the throne room of heaven and chose to enter earth as an infant and be dependent upon a human being. He knows our pains and our struggles and our limitations quite personally.
As to the other assumption that God is sending us to hell, that is also not true. God has sent His Son Jesus on behalf of each of us. Like a life preserver, we can wrap ourselves with Him and be saved. However, if we reject this love offering from God and choose to go about it on our own, then when the day of judgment comes, God will let us have our way. And He will send us to the place that we have chosen. It is a place that was made for the devil and his demons. It was never intended for human beings. So to answer the question, nobody is good in God’s eyes. But everyone is loved. And God will never send us to hell but we will choose to go there on our own.
